Motion Control for Rockwell Software
Overview
XMC
for ControlPak is the only commercial software solution that
seamlessly provides an open motion control architecture for
Rockwell Software's ControlPak suite of soft logic and HMI
products to build best-of-class PC-based control solutions.
XMC for ControlPak extends ControlPak products with hardware-independent
motion programming software tools that enable the Allen Bradley
SoftLogix™ 5 soft PLC and Rockwell Software's CtrlContainer
HMI development environment to support third party motion
controllers. Creating single and multi axis, PC-based motion
control software solutions has never been easier!
Key Features
XMC for ControlPak includes four powerful, integrated software
components to rapidly build, test, integrate, and deploy motion
control solutions with popular Rockwell Software products.
Visual Configuration
Configure your machine using the XMC Motion Administrator™.
The visual interface of the XMC Motion Administrator allows
the motion engineer to easily configure system axes, motor
parameters, and motion controller-specific settings. This
process requires no hardware programming.
Building the Motion Programs
Using the XMC Motion Studio™, the motion engineer can quickly
develop, debug, and deploy controller-independent motion programs
that solve their point-to-point motion needs. The visual interface
of the XMC Motion Studio offers an easy point and click method
of building motion programs. Each motion program can be tested
using the single-step debug feature, which allows the motion
engineer to execute one command at a time.
Integrate Motion and Logic
The XMC Logic Extension Module (LEM) included for Rockwell
Software's SoftLogix™5, provides the logic engineer easy access
to Motion Studio programs through IEC-1131-3 relay ladder
logic, structured text, or sequential flow charts. The XMC
Motion Communications Manager™ provides the link between the
XMC LEM and the physical motion controller so the SoftLogix
5 PLC can access Motion Studio programs without compromising
its scan rate. Using the same logical operations that they
have always been using, the logic engineer treats each motion
program as an I/O point where turning on the I/O point runs
the program and once the program completes the I/O point turns
off. This model makes adding motion to existing logic programs
extremely easy.
Integrate Motion and HMI
Using the XMC Motion Data AddIn for Rockwell Software's CtrlContainer
application, the Human Machine Interface (HMI) engineer can
easily build visual interfaces that model the behavior of
their machine. Through simple drag-n-drop operations (no programming
required!) each motion control property exposed by the XMC
Motion Data AddIn is dragged and 'attached' to visual interface
elements such as gauges and dials that, when run, show the
live values as they change. In addition, using the Visual
Basic for Applications (VBA) interface provided by the XMC
Motion Data AddIn, the Visual Basic programmer has the option
to control their motion system completely through Visual Basic.
